Year End Message from Mr. Klassen

As the year begins to wind down, I wanted to reach out and share some information regarding the end of the school year, and also to share some final thoughts. Please take the time to read through this document, as there will be important information presented throughout.

Last Day of School

Although this is not how anyone anticipated the year ending, we must move forward, stay united and continue to be the strong community I have come to know. The district has continued to follow the ministry guidelines for returning to school and has officially decided to stop all in-person and virtual/ on-line learning as of  Friday, June 19th, 2020. Therefore this will be the last day for all students to access learning opportunities before the summer.

Saying Good-bye

Through the following week, Monday, June 22, Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24, educators will still be in the building to wrap up everything for the year. During this time if you would like to make an appointment to come and say good bye to your child’s teacher, pick up any final supplies or return technology, you will be able to do so. We encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher and set up a time to visit, as we would like to continue maintaining physical distancing as much as possible. Any items that are not picked up by Wednesday, June 24, 2020 will be donated.

Essential Worker Child Minding

If you are an essential worker and require child minding from Monday, June 22 – Wednesday June 24, between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, please e-mail me at pklassen@deltasd.bc.ca and we can arrange some care for your children in the building. During this time, students will be required to bring all supplies from home and to work independently or engage themselves independently throughout the day. We will have students go outside, and enjoy some fresh air, so they should dress appropriately. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Report Cards

As we have done all year, report cards will be available online through parent connect. They will be posted on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s report, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

Returning Borrowed Technology

It is that time of year, when we will be starting to collect back all of the technology that was loaned out. As learning continues until Friday, June 19th, we are aware that some of this may still be needed and used. However, if you are not in need of it and are able to return it, we will start collecting it back.

To bring back your technology, please just contact the office (604.594-2474) and set up a time to return it to the school. Mrs. Gonzalez will be accepting all returns and will complete the transaction by reviewing the equipment, sanitizing and putting them away.

All technology is due back by Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Final Thoughts

As we enter summer vacation, it is important to reflect and acknowledge all of the amazing work each of your families and all staff have accomplished in these past months. This has not been an easy transition on anyone, but together we have overcome the odds, and have worked together to create a united community, that not only cares and supports one another, but also respects and values each other.

Throughout the summer months, it is important to take the time to relax and recoup from all of this. I encourage each of family to focus on your mental and physical health and to celebrate all that we have accomplished. It is a time for staying positive and for hope.

Please remember that school is not over, as we still have a few weeks left, and that summer break is just a break, before we move onto the next stage in September. We will continue with our connectedness activities throughout the remainder of the month and are available if you need to reach out .
